At a Vineyard pastors’ conference in September 1992, founder John Wimber taught on 10 areas of ministry that were essential to any Vineyard church. John called these areas the Vineyard Genetic Code because they are the common denominators that identify us as a family.

A Vineyard experience should typically include:

• The Bible is taught faithfully as the standard for living
• Intimate worship is experienced and carried into daily life
• Care for the poor / needy / broken is prominent
• Evangelism is central to the purpose and practice of church life
• Relationships are valued and encouraged through small groups
• Signs & wonders are expected in prayer and ministry
• Spiritual Gifts are released and exercised as tools for ministry
• People are trained / equipped for ministry in the church and the world
• There is a love for and participation with other churches in the body of Christ for the sake of the Kingdom of God
• There is participation in and support for missions and church planting at home and abroad
